The 147th Annual Scottish Highland Gathering and Games takes over the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton this Saturday and Sunday. Thought by many to be the largest Scottish celebration in the world, it draws over 30 pipe bands who compete as do the best highland dancers in the land.
To top it off are the Heavy Events, which draw the world’s best athletes for the World Championships of the International Highland Games Federation. There’s the tossing of the fabled “caber” (below) as well as the Weight-For-Height events.
If that’s not enough, there are Birds of Prey, British Food, Venders, Clans, Kilts, Scotch Whiskey, Sheep Dog Trials, Living History and much, much more. This is a great event for the family, and if you have a little Scottish in you all the better… Maybe you’ll meet other members of your clan!
The wide variety of things to do in the San Ramon Tri-Valley area is one of the reasons I choose to live and work here. I absolutely love it. Regardless of what types of entertainment or events you like, you’ll find them in either your own back yard or the greater Bay Area. It’s all here!
