Why You Should Be Wary Of Pre-approved Credit Card Offers

credit scoreWe’ve definitely noticed an increase in the frequency of “pre-screened” or “pre-approved” credit card offers we’re getting in the mail.  Did you know they come with a catch and should not just be taken at face value?

Thanks to our friend Ken Strey over at Scorewell, a credit consulting firm in Walnut Creek, we now understand these offers a little better.  Ken states:

“Please read these offers and understand that “you have been approved TO APPLY for a credit card.” These offers are not an automatic approval and they all process a HARD credit inquiry that negatively impacts your credit score!

It is very easy to put a stop to this!  On the bottom of every offer, it is mandated by law that there is an 800# you can call to be immediately removed from any future mailing list:

You can also fill out the form online to opt out of all credit and insurance offers sent to you in the mail.  It is located at this website.

Thanks Ken!  His contact info if you have questions on credit or credit score related issues:
